Subject Description | In this subject students are introduced to a wide selection of examples of Greek poetry and short fiction written in the 20th century and should develop techniques for their interpretation and analysis. The selections represent the major thematic preoccupations of Greek writers during this period and their connection with historical, political and social developments is explored, as are the characteristics of the different genres and styles of writing. Students should complete the subject acquainted with some major examples of 20th century Greek poetry and fiction; practised in a range of techniques for the interpretation and analysis of these texts; and having significantly enhanced their skills in the comprehension and discussion of Greek texts. |

Assessment | A 1000 word essay 25% (due mid-semester), a 2000 word essay 50% (due in week 10) and a 2-hour test 25% (due at the end of semester). Third year students will be expected to show a greater achievement of discipline-specific skills in their written work than second year students. |
