Subject Description | In this subject students will examine various practices of character construction in a range of forms, including fiction, narrative, poetry and script. Analysis will focus on theories of representation, specifically how the dynamics of monologue, dialogue and polyphony work to construct and deconstruct the reading and recognition of character and subject. Students will engage with the creative work of writers from a variety of cultures and write, perform and workshop detailed pieces within the class unit. |

Assessment | Fourth year level: Creative work equivalent to 5000 words. Writing equivalent to 3000 words in prose, poetry or script 75% (35% due mid semester, 35% due end of semester), 30 minute class presentation/paper of 500-1000 words 10% (as scheduled throughout the semester), analysis of theoretical assumptions in personal creative work 1500 words 15% (due at the end of semester). Third year level: Creative work equivalent to 4000 words. Writing equivalent to 2500 words in prose, poetry or script (35% due mid semester, 35% due end of semester), 30 minute class presentation/paper of 500-1000 words 10% (as scheduled throughout the semester), analysis of theoretical assumptions in personal creative work 1000 words 15% (due at the end of semester). |
