Subject Description

The first half of this subject examines some of the different ways in which sound is often employed in combination with images (particularly the cinematic image). The second half examines the function and use of diegetic and extra-diegetic music in mainstream and experimental film. This unit is primarily concerned with film, however, although not necessary some prior elementary knowledge of music theory would prove helpful.
