Subject Description

This subject comprises a detailed study of the principles and craft of theatre and performance writing with focus on production of a script. Cultural and theoretical issues relevant to current practices and styles will also be studied.

Generic Skills

  • be able to conduct research through competent use of the library and other information sources, and through defining areas of enquiry and methods of research;

  • demonstrate teamwork through joint performance preparation;

  • demonstrate time management, independent organization and planning;

  • communicate knowledge in oral, written and/or creative form.

Assessment

Written work equivalent to 4000 words comprising a script equivalent to 2500 words 70% (due at the end of semester, including two drafts submitted the week before and week after semester break), a 30-minute class presentation paper of 1000 words 10% (presented as scheduled during the semester), a course journal documenting participation in and completion of workshop exercises and script research and development 10% (due in the last class of semester), journal notes and exercises equivalent to 500 words, and a research appropriate dramaturgical organization and write application (due at the end of semester.) There is an 80% attendance hurdle for this subject.
