760-301 Independent Writing Project

Note

A quota of 30 students applies. Selection will be made on the basis of a minimum H2B average in first- and second-year creative writing subjects and, when appropriate, consideration of a project proposal. Students intending to enrol in this subject must first contact one of the subject coordinators.

Prerequisites

25 points of second year creative writing. Students intending to work on the editorial panel of the school's literary journal, VIVID must enrol in this subject in Semester 2.

A 2.5-hour workshop and/or individual mentoring sessions equivalent to one hour per week

Subject Description

Work to be negotiated as a contract between lecturer and student. Individual contracts will be established at beginning of semester.

Generic Skills

  • be able to conduct research through competent use of the library and other information sources, and through defining areas of enquiry and methods of research;

  • demonstrate teamwork through joint performance preparation;

  • demonstrate time management, independent organization and planning;

  • communicate knowledge in oral, written and/or creative form;

  • think critically and analysis through recommended reading, essay writing, workshop practice and performance and by determining the strength of an argument or approach to performance.

Assessment

A writing folio of 4000 words including workshop activities, collaborative work, attendance and peer editing as assigned (100%). Written work will be submitted and assessed at the end of semester.
