25 points of first year visual media or equivalent, or prior completion of subject 760-133 Visual Arts: Subject/Object or 760-134 Visual Arts: Space, Light and Shadows, or 760-137 Visual Arts: Found Objects (prior to 2003), 12.5 points of first year visual arts studio practice subject or equivalent.

Four hours of studio practice and four hours of studio access per week

Subject Description

The subject reflects on the nature and existence of myth in contemporary experience and how this is expressed in art practice. The use of text in art and how narrative in the form of artist's books provides the means of exploring this theme will be examined. The student's interests and independent research into the theme, media and techniques, will determine the content and form of a handmade book. Students will elect to work in either two or three-dimensional media.

  • demonstrate time management, independent organization and planning;

  • communicate knowledge in oral, written and/or creative form;

  • think critically and analysis through recommended reading, essay writing, workshop practice and performance and by determining the strength of an argument or approach to performance.

Assessment

Practical projects equivalent to 3000 words 80% (due at the end of semester), visual/written documentation or research equivalent to 1000 words 20% (due mid-semester) and participation in practical workshops. A hurdle requirement of a minimum 80% attendance required.
