Subject Description | In this subject students will explore principles of the craft and theory of writing short narrative fiction. Students will read a variety of short narrative fiction from the beginning of the modernist era to contemporary fiction. |

Assessment | Written work totalling 4000 words comprising short fiction works totalling 3000 words with discussion of how the fiction responds to the subject content 75%; an analysis of at least two stories from the set texts, addressing issues of the poetics and history of short fiction 600 words 15%; regular attendance and participation by leading a discussion and presenting a draft of work in progress for workshopping during semester 10%. All completed written work will be submitted at the end of the semester. |
