Subject Description

This subject explores the elements of myth and ritual in performance and the relationship of myth to the broader culture. It examines the ways in which myth-making produces meaning in traditional and contemporary culture and the conventions that govern its transformation into performance.

Generic Skills

  • demonstrate sound and independent critical and ethical thinking in their choice of materials and processes;

  • be able to present written and oral communication to a professional standard regarding their treatment and material choices.

Assessment

Written work totalling 4000 words or equivalent comprising a tutorial paper 1200 words 30% (due one week after class presentation) an essay of 1600 words 40% (due at the end of semester) and a 15-minute group devised performance equivalent to 1200 words 30% (due at the end of semester). A hurdle requirement of a minimum 80% attendance required.
