Subject Description

This foundation subject aims to introduce students in visual media to various media, art-historical traditions and theoretical positions to enable them to develop a critical self-awareness about their own art practice and better understand the issues and contexts that inform art practice in a contemporary context. Through a combination of workshops, group critique classes and independent studies, the course offers a space for sustained exploration of possibilities in cultural production and challenges students to question conventional ideas about contemporary art. The course provides a foundation for cross-disciplinary art making, and within that context develops an intellectual framework that encourages students to investigate ideas as art.

  • possess the ability and confidence to participate effectively in collaborative learning as a team-member, while respecting individual differences;
