Subject Description | This subject explores the economic, social and institutional processes by which urban development occurs and the role of private and public real estate in it; the influence of aggregate decision-making behaviour of individuals and groups on the location, form, timing and rate of urban development; the distribution of decision-making powers across public and private institutions in Victoria; the accumulative effect of historic institutional decisions on the spatial land use pattern and physical form of Melbourne; and the theories that underpin urban planning in Victoria and the practice of urban planning under the Planning & Environment Act (Vic). |
Assessment | One tutorial paper and two planning projects equivalent in total to 3000 words (60%), and one two-hour examination (40%). |
