Subject Description | The subject considers theories and interpretations of urbanisation and urban development influential in urban planning and geography over the past three decades. Examining the use of these understandings of the urban in different national and regional contexts (eg. Australian, Western, Asian, postcolonial, multicultural), it emphasises the position of cities in contemporary processes of globalisation, and the diverse lives of urban dwellers in different places and circumstances. Students will gain experience in designing and undertaking some original research work, using the perspectives discussed. |
Assessment | Written assignments equivalent to not more than 3000 words (70%) and a two-hour examination (with questions made available in advance) (30%). |
