Subject Description

An introduction to macroeconomic theory and policy. Economic aggregates such as aggregate production and employment, the general level of prices and inflation, the exchange rate, the volume of money, the balance of payments and economic growth. Analysis is particularly directed to models of an open economy and to current economic problems and policy issues.

Assessment

A 2-hour end-of-semester examination (60%), a multiple choice test (5%), two assignments totalling not more than 2500 words (25%), and tutorial attendance and participation (10%).
