Subject Description

This subject gives students an understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety issues of the workplace and the knowledge to evaluate the hazards and risk potentials using various methods.

Generic Skills

  • Effectively investigate a problem and provide solutions;

  • Build initiative through self-directed studies and tasks.

The subject covers the areas of;

  • The rationale for managing O H & S;

  • Descriptions of common terms and discussion of the concepts of Safe Person and Safe Place;

  • The legislation applicable to O H & S and its application;

  • Various methods for identifying workplace hazards will be investigated;

  • Identify preventative and reactive strategies.

Assessment

A report on a workplace project of up to 2,000 words (55%) and completion of 6 Workbook self-directed projects/activities (45% total).
