Subject Description

This subject aims to develop students' proficiency in basic idiomatic and conversational forms. Students should develop a proficiency in written structures of moderate complexity and be able to formulate such structures clearly and accurately. Students should also develop the ability to interpret messages at an intermediate level of complexity occurring in a variety of audio-visual media and in individual and group spoken forms. On completion of the subject students should have the level of language competency required for admittance into 126-017 German 2 (Core) A and 126-015 German 2B.

Generic Skills

  • be able to express themselves in a clear and structured way in writing and be able to deliver oral presentations with ease and confidence;

  • be able to work efficiently as a team member and have developed skills in cross-cultural analysis.

Assessment

A 2-hour examination 50%, a 10-minute oral examination (at the end of semester), a 5-minute oral presentation 10% (during the semester), four vocabulary tests 5% (during semester), and written work totalling 1000 words 20% (during the semester).
