Subject Description

In this subject students should acquire a proficiency in basic idiomatic and conversational forms and in written structures of moderate complexity. Students should also acquire the ability to interpret messages of an intermediate level of complexity occurring in a variety of audio-visual media and in individual and group spoken forms. On completion of the subject students should achieve the level of language competency required for admittance into 126-132 German 1C and 126-133 German 1D.

Generic Skills

  • be able to express themselves in a clear and structured way in writing and be able to deliver oral presentations with ease and confidence;

  • be able to work efficiently as a team member and have developed skills in cross-cultural analysis.

Assessment

A 2-hour examination 50%, a 10-minute oral examination (at the end of semester), a 5-minute oral presentation 10% (during the semester), four vocabulary tests 5% (during semester), and written work totalling 1000 words 20% (during the semester).
