Subject Description

This subject builds on skills acquired in 126-070 Advanced Swedish A and comprises language training, a survey of Swedish culture and society, and the study of selected poetry and prose from 1880 to the present. Students will also be introduced to Danish and Norwegian for reading comprehension purposes. On completion of this subject, students should be able to communicate in Swedish with greater fluency, accuracy and appropriateness in activities involving the integrated use of listening, speaking, reading and writing, and have gained an increased understanding of Swedish literature, culture and society.

Generic Skills

  • be able to express themselves in a clear and structured way in writing and be able to deliver oral presentations with ease and confidence;

  • be able to work efficiently as a team member and have developed skills in cross-cultural analysis.

Assessment

A 2-hour written examination 40% (due end of the semester), a 20 minute oral examination based on a research report 30% (due end of the semester), and regular language tests and assignments totalling 1000 words 30% (throughout the semester).
