Subject Description

This subject builds on skills acquired in Intermediate Swedish and comprises language training, a survey of the history of the Swedish language, and the study of selected prose from 1950 to the present. Students will further improve their ability to communicate in Swedish with increasing fluency, accuracy and appropriateness in activities involving the integrated us of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Furthermore, students will gain insights into the historical, social and stylistic variation of the Swedish language. On completion of this subject, students should have achieved the level of competence required for admittance to 126-071 Advanced Swedish B.

Generic Skills

  • be able to express themselves in a clear and structured way in writing;

  • be able to deliver oral presentations with ease and confidence;

  • should be able to work efficiently as a team member and have developed skills in cross- cultural analysis.

Assessment

A 2-hour written examination 40% (end of the semester), a 20-minute oral examination 30% (end of the semester), and regular language tests and assignments totalling 1000 words 30% (throughout the semester).
