Admission to the postgraduate diploma or fourth year honours in environmental studies.

Subject Description

An approved topic/research project selected in consultation with the supervisor/s. The student will also write a research proposal and give an oral presentation on the proposed research.

Generic Skills

  • be able to think critically (for example, about environmental studies and its measures);

  • be able to obtain information to evaluate propositions (about some principles in environmental studies);

  • be able to write a coherent and empirically substantiated research paper;

  • be able to defend that paper.

Assessment

A thesis of 15000 words 100% (due in the second semester of enrolment). Hurdle requirement: a 2000 word research proposal, a 30-minute oral presentation and attendance at departmental research seminars.
