This subject builds on speaking and listening skills in French acquired in 116-122 Beginners French IB. The aim of the subject is twofold: first, to familiarise students with the speech patterns of a range of native speakers, differing in age, sex and social background; second, to give students the opportunity to practise speaking skills in a variety of situations, for example, information seeking, describing people, places and things, story-telling, and giving advice. Students will also continue work on pronunciation, intonation and rhythmic patterns.

Generic Skills

  • develop skills in written communication through essay and assignment preparation and writing;

  • develop skills in public speaking and confidence in self-expression through tutorial participation and class presentations;

  • develop attention to detail through close reading and textual analysis, essay preparation and writing, and examination revision;

  • develop skills in time management and planning through managing and organizing workloads for required and recommended reading, essay and assignment completion and revision for examinations.
