Subject Description

This subject builds upon the linguistic abilities developed in 116-014 French II:Language I. It aims at consolidating and expanding the four major language skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing) by intensive practical training. This is achieved through a variety of activities, in particular group discussions, formal study of grammar, discourse forms and vocabulary, creative and factual writing, reading, listening to and watching authentic recorded documents. The materials used will broaden students' knowledge of French and Francophone high and popular cultures.

Generic Skills

  • have consolidated and expanded the four major language skills; listening, speaking, reading and writing, by extensive practical training.

Assessment

Oral and written work totalling 2000 words 60% (due during and at the end of semester), a 20-minute listening comprehension test 15% (due during semester), and a 1-hour written test 25% (due during exam period).
