Subject Description

Building on Intermediate French A, this subject is designed to revise and extend students' grammatical and lexical knowledge, as well as refining oral and listening skills. On completion of the subject, students should have consolidated and built on grammatical knowledge of the main structures of French, increased their vocabulary to a moderate level of complexity, be able to communicate in French on a variety of topics, and express and defend their opinions in both spoken and written form.

Generic Skills

  • be capable of communicating knowledge intelligibly and economically through essay and assignment writing, tutorial discussion and class presentations;

  • develop skills in written communication through essay and assignment preparation and writing;

  • develop skills in public speaking and confidence in self-expression through tutorial participation and class presentations.

Assessment

Written work totalling 1200 words 25% (due throughout semester), an oral test totalling 1000 words 20% (due in week 10), a 1-hour listening comprehension test of 600 words 15% (due week 11), a 1.5-hour written language test 40% (due in exam period).
