Subject Description

This subject is a continuation of 110-460 Advanced Chinese 1. It should enhance students' ability to understand and translate Chinese texts and to handle oral Chinese over a wide range of subject matter.

Generic Skills

  • acquire written communication skills through essay writing and seminar discussion;

  • show attention to detail through essay preparation and writing;

  • acquire time management and planning skills through managing and organising workloads for recommended reading, essay and assignment completion;

  • acquire public speaking skills through tutorial and seminar discussion and class presentations.

Assessment

A short translation assignment 15% (due mid-semester), a short essay assignment 15% (due at the end of semester), an oral presentation 10% (due at the end of semester), a 2-hour final examination 50% (due during the examination period) and continuous class participation 10%.
