Subject Description

This subject is a course in elementary spoken Chinese to complement 110-143 Introductory Chinese 1A. Students will learn standard pronunciation and should develop basic listening comprehension and speaking skills on a limited range of everyday topics.

Generic Skills

  • acquire public speaking skills through tutorial and seminar discussion and class presentations;

  • acquire time management and planning skills through managing and organising workloads for recommended reading, essay and assignment completion;

  • show attention to detail through essay preparation and writing;

  • acquire written communication skills through essay writing and seminar discussion.

Assessment

A 30-minute listening comprehension test 50% (due during the examination period), a 5-minute oral test 40% (due during the examination period) and class participation 10%.
