110-145 Introductory Chinese 1B and 110-146 Spoken Introductory Chinese 1B or equivalent as determined by the coordinator. New students may not enrol unless they have attended an interview and/or taken a placement test in the week preceding the first week of semester.

Subject Description

This subject is a second-level beginners course in spoken Chinese to complement 110-028 Introductory Chinese 2A. Students should broaden the range of their listening comprehension and speaking skills.

Generic Skills

  • acquire written communication skills through essay writing and seminar discussion;

  • acquire time management and planning skills through managing and organising workloads for recommended reading, essay and assignment completion;

  • show attention to detail through essay preparation and writing;

  • acquire public speaking skills through tutorial and seminar discussion and class presentations.

Assessment

A 30-minute listening comprehension test 40% (due during the examination period), a 10-minute oral test 50% (due during the examination period) and continuous class participation 10%.
