Subject Description

This course builds on the knowledge acquired by students in Chinese 1B. Students should broaden their listening comprehension and speaking skills and gain confidence and independence in handling written Chinese language materials and in making the transition from textbook material to original Chinese texts.

Generic Skills

  • acquire written communication skills through essay writing and seminar discussion;

  • acquire public speaking skills through tutorial and seminar discussion and class presentations;

  • acquire time management and planning skills through managing and organising workloads for recommended reading, essay and assignment completion;

  • show attention to detail through essay preparation and writing.

Assessment

Short tests and/or assignments 25% (commencing 2nd week and before the end of semester), an oral test 20% (due during the examination period), a listening and comprehension test 20% (due during the examination period), a final examination 25% (due during the examination period) and continuous class participation 10%.
