Subject Description

In this subject students will consolidate the skills developed in 110-079 Indonesian Level 4A. Students should be able to read Indonesian texts of different styles and registers, and to write a fairly nuanced essay in formal Indonesian, demonstrating sensitivity to the complexity of Indonesian social life and language.

Generic Skills

  • acquire written communication skills through essay writing and seminar discussion;

  • show attention to detail through essay preparation and writing;

  • acquire time management and planning skills through managing and organising workloads for recommended reading, essay and assignment completion;

  • acquire public speaking skills through tutorial and seminar discussion and class presentations.

Assessment

A written class test of 500 words or 600 words for postgraduate students 10% (due mid-semester), a 10-minute speech or a 12-minute speech for postgraduate students 10% (due mid-semester), a long essay of 1000 words or 1700 words for postgraduate students 20%, a 2-hour final examination 40% (due during the examination period) and continuous class participation 20%. Second and third year students are required to attend a minimum of 80 per cent of all classes in order to be eligible to take the examination.
