Subject Description

This is an advanced subject in Chinese language and literature for students who have passed 110-041 Standard Chinese 3A. At the conclusion of this subject students should be able to read a variety of extracts from modern Chinese literature. Students should be familiar with Chinese current affairs. and have improved their ability to write Standard Chinese.

Generic Skills

  • acquire written communication skills through essay writing and seminar discussion;

  • show attention to detail through essay preparation and writing;

  • acquire time management and planning skills through managing and organising workloads for recommended reading, essay and assignment completion;

  • acquire public speaking skills through tutorial and seminar discussion and class presentations.

Assessment

A 1-hour composition test 20% (due mid-semester), a 10-minute oral examination 10% (due during the examination period), a 2-hour examination 60% (due during the examination period), ongoing class work 5% and ongoing class participation 5%.
