Subject Description

This subject involves the close study of Latin literary texts in their cultural context. This study is supported by further work on Latin grammar and syntax and the introduction of students to Latin literary criticism. On completion of the subject, students should have an understanding of the genre, themes, style and circumstances for reception of the text or texts studied, and have consolidated their knowledge of Latin grammar and syntax.

Assessment

For 1st/2nd/3rd year: tutorial exercises totalling 1250 words 25% (due during semester), assessment tests totalling 1500 words 45% (due during semester) and a 1250-word essay 30% (due in the examination period). For 4th year: tutorial exercises totalling 1250 words 20% (due during semester), assessment tests totalling 1250 words 35% (due during semester), a 1000-word presentation report 20% (due during semester) and a 1500-word essay 25% (due in the examination period).
