Subject Description

In this subject students translate and discuss the interpretation of literary and non-literary texts deriving from both the core classical corpus and from related contexts. In the classes further work is undertaken on grammar and syntax which revises and consolidates the beginners course. Students will also undertake work in Ancient Greek literary and textual criticism. On completion of this subject students should have consolidated their skills in working with Ancient Greek texts and have discovered some of the many important contributions which reading original texts can make to understanding the ancient world.

Assessment

Two hours of class tests and written work, which may comprise regular exercises totalling 2000 words at 1st, 2nd and 3rd year, 3000 words at 4th year.
