Subject Description

This subject is concerned with the variety of Near Eastern cultures that occupied the highlands between 1200 and 400 BC. It will encompass, among others, the Anatolian (Urartu, Phrygia, Lydia, Caria), Iranian (Media, Persia) and Trans-Caucasian (Colchis) worlds. Located north and east of lowland Mesopotamia, these cultures provide a refreshingly new perspective on cultural developments in the ancient Near East in those centuries before Alexander the Great.
