Subject Description

In this subject students have the opportunity to develop their own poetry through workshop sessions, class discussions and submission of drafts. Over the course of the semester students will work on a number of poems, in different modes and forms, specifically through taking part in the writing workshop process. Students should also develop an awareness of the way in which the material presentation of their writing is significant.

Generic Skills

  • be able to use a range of techniques to tap creative ideas;

  • be able to plan feasible creative projects for a given time-frame and word length;

  • be able to use structure and style with economy and power across a range of genres.

Assessment

Workshop participation and class presentation 10% and written work equivalent to 4000 words consisting of 20-25 lines of poetry 20% (due mid-semester) and 200 lines of poetry 60% (due at the end of semester). All students will be required to submit a writer's notebook 10% (due at the end of semester).
