9. Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Commerce
9.1. Bachelor of Music with honours within the BMus/BCom
The Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Commerce (BMus/BCom) aims to combine a professional education in music with the development of professional competence in areas including business information systems, econometrics, economics, finance, international business, management and marketing.
Students complete subjects totaling 500 points over five years of full-time study (or equivalent part-time), comprising 300 points of Music subjects and 200 points of Commerce subjects. The music component of the degree is made up of core practical, ensemble, aural/theory and history subjects with a wide range of electives subjects to choose from. The commerce component is highly flexible and gives students the opportunity to choose subjects, matching their area of interest, from a variety of specialiastion areas.
Students in combined degrees are required to deal with both faculties at many times throughout their course. Students should contact the Faculty of Economics and Commerce regarding commerce course advice, subject selection and changes. Similarly, music course advice, subject selection and changes will be dealt with by the Faculty of Music.

An overall honours result is calculated as follows:
best 50 points of music subjects taken at 3rd-year level;
best 50 points of music subjects taken at 4th-year level;
the mark for each subject is weighted according to its point value in the course;
4th-year marks are weighted 2:1 against 3rd-year marks;
students who achieve an average result of 80 per cent or above will be awarded the degree with Honours.
