Subject Description | In this subject students should develop skills in interpretation and analysis of a wide sampling of works of 19th century Greek poetry and prose, representing major thematic preoccupations of Greek writers. Students will explore the connections of the writings to historical, political and social developments. The characteristics of the different genres and styles of writing will be studied, ranging from neoclassical, romantic and realist, from ethnography, autobiography and satire. The development of the 'Greek Language Controversy' as a literary and social issue is also monitored through the selection of texts. |
