Subject Description | This subject involves the application of foundations established in theatre studies to theatre design. Investigations of form, structure and theatre design history and praxis will develop students' understanding of basic design principles and spatial concepts appropriate to a critical investigation of design for the theatre. Fundamental concepts of design will be introduced through the discussion of prominent designers, techniques of design, and ideas of design in form and function. Aspects of design relating to the use of light and space in theatre will be developed in class time and research projects. |
Assessment | Work equivalent to 4000 words for 3rd year, 5000 words for 4th year consisting of a research project in the form of an essay (totalling 2500 words for 3rd year, 3500 words for 4th year) on an aspect of theatre design, participation and class presentation comprising a design project (dealing with either space or light) to be presented in model, drawing, digital or some other format equivalent to 1500 words for 3rd year and 4th year. Minimum of 80% attendance (hurdle requirement). |
