Subject Description | In this subject students will read sporting events such as the Olympic Games, AFL football, and cricket as performance. They will apply the analytical categories of performance to sport in order to reveal their common structural and semantic patterns. They will examine the way in which sport is constructed and presented for its audiences. Finally they will develop a critique of sport as a cultural practice using the critical paradigms of performance theory. |
Assessment | Work equivalent to 4000 words for 3rd year, 5000 words for 4th year consisting of a research project in the form of an essay (totalling 2000 words for 3rd year, 3000 words for 4th year) on an aspect of performance sport, participation and class presentation equivalent to 1000 words for 3rd year and 4th year and preparation and presentation of a performance event equivalent to 1000 words. Minimum of 80% attendance (hurdle requirement). |
