Subject Description

In this subject students will read sporting events such as the Olympic Games, AFL football, and cricket as performance. They will apply the analytical categories of performance to sport in order to reveal their common structural and semantic patterns. They will examine the way in which sport is constructed and presented for its audiences. Finally they will develop a critique of sport as a cultural practice using the critical paradigms of performance theory.
