Subject Description

This subject aims to help students develop an integrated view of the relationships between scholarly music study, music performance, and the appreciation of the diversity of music in our culture. The subject introduces approaches to advanced music study, concepts of musical style based on cultural and historical interpretation, and an awareness of the stylistic implications of musical language. Students will study a broad selection of music from different times and places to reinforce and expand their musical experience. Students will also develop skills in style analysis, music research and technology including bibliographic, internet and computer skills, and articulate written and spoken communication about music.

Assessment

Two essays of 1000 words each (25% each); one assignment of 2000 words (50%).
