Subject Description

This is a studio-based subject dealing with the planning, design and management of predominantly natural areas for selected use and conservation. The sites dealt with may include derelict sites for rehabilitation or natural sites for protection in urban areas, fringe areas or rural areas of natural interest, of medium scale (up to 25 ha). The techniques of site planning and design for conservation are introduced and integrated spatially with the ecological imperatives for the particular area. Concepts such as carrying capacity, core/buffer areas, habitat corridors will be explored in the spatial dimension.
