Subject Description | This subject considers the introduction of organised sport in the nineteenth century and its development as a major Australian institution. Through the exploration of particular events, issues of class, race, gender and ethnicity in the formation of an Australian sporting tradition and its place in global context will be discussed. On completion of this subject students will be able to appreciate the contribution that sport makes to the economic, social and cultural life of the nation. |
