Subject Description | This subject is offered on-line. It builds on skills acquired in Beginners Swedish, or equivalent, and focuses on communicative language skills in a variety of situations, ranging from everyday situations to more formal encounters. Special emphasis is placed on listening comprehension skills where students will gain an increased understanding of different registers as well as regional and social language variation. Students will also engage in active language production via discussion and negotiation tasks in both synchronic (online chat) and asynchronic (classroom bulletin board) mode. On completion of the subject students should have: developed an increased understanding of spoken Swedish in a variety of contexts; acquired communicative skills for expressing themselves with an increasing level of ease and correctness; achieved the level of competence required for admittance into 126-066 Intermediate Swedish C and 126-067 Intermediate Swedish D. |
Assessment | Assessed aural/oral work equivalent to 2000 words according to the following: Online listening comprehension tests, discussion and negotiation tasks with evidence of posting and discussion on the Bulletin Board and chat participation, and a 10-minute oral exam on the telephone with tutor. |
