Students wishing to take this subject for arts points must obtain written permission from the Head of SAGES. Students wishing to take this subject for science points in a BSc degree must have their research proposal approved by the Associate Dean, Academic Programs, in the Faculty of Science.

Subject Description

A special study based on field research in an area of interest arising from one or more geography/environmental studies subjects taken by the student. Students will gain a thorough understanding of a particular geographical or environmental issue and how it relates to the broader perspective of the relevant discipline. The subject will demonstrate how to research and evaluate a wide range of literature sources for information on the chosen topic; and how to design, carry out and prepare a report which may involve the collection of some primary data. The subject is especially aimed at students who wish to engage in research activities overseas.

Assessment

A research proposal essay of 1000 words, and a research report of 3000 words for 3rd year, 4000 words for 4th year, and a hurdle requirement of a 15-minute oral presentation.
