Subject Description

The subject consists of two parts: (1) Contrastive study of Italian and English sound systems and language structures in order to highlight the differences; and (2) Varieties of Italian component which will focus on a range of varieties of Italian in use today. This will include looking at factors (eg. regional, social, cultural and political) that may influence such variation. It will also consider the role of Italian on the world stage and the influence of other languages on Italian. The subject is both descriptive and practical and is intended to assist students with a better understanding of spoken and written Italian in its many contexts.
