Subject Description

This subject will focus on issues in the history and development of the Spanish-speaking world. It will also consider different issues relevant to contemporary Spanish speaking society. It will examine aspects such as the rise of Spain as a great international power, the development of Latin America since Discovery, as well as more contemporary issues such as the Spanish Civil War and its impact on Spanish society, the development of democrary and the state in Spain and Latin America, and the interaction between the Spanish-speaking and English-speaking worlds today, especially in North America.
