Subject Description | This subject aims to familiarise students with colloquial and dialectal expressions used in Japan. It introduces students to various styles of Japanese spoken by those differentiated by age, gender and region. It will also give students opportunities to examine different registers in various conversation settings. In class, students will view contemporary Japanese films and TV dramas and analyse various types of conversations. Students will practise speaking in appropriate styles depending on the situation. Students who complete this subject should have acquired good knowledge of colloquial language. |
Assessment | Assignments totalling 2000 words for 3rd year, 3000 words for 4th year, examinations totalling 2000 words. Students are required to attend a minimum of 70% of all classes in order to be eligible to take the examinations. |
