Subject Description

This subject introduces advanced learners of Japanese to two interrelated, but different, areas of language study: interpreting and translation. It provides the students with opportunities to understand what knowledge and techniques are necessary for interpreting and translating. It involves regular practice of interpreting and text translation in various settings and contexts. Students are also encouraged to explore the differences in the two languages. Students who complete this subject should have obtained further insight into the structures, grammar, and discourse of Japanese and English. They also should have understood basic skills and techniques for Japanese-English interpreting and translation.
