Prerequisites	110-143 Introductory Chinese 1A and 110-144 Spoken Introductory Chinese 1A or equivalent as determined by the coordinator. New students may not enrol unless they have attended an interview and/or taken a placement test in the week preceding the first week of semester.

Contact	A 1-hour lecture and three hours of language classes per week
Subject Description	This subject is an introductory course in Chinese for students who have completed 110-143 Introductory Chinese 1A and 110-144 Spoken Introductory Chinese 1A. By the conclusion of this subject students should be able to speak with an acceptable standard of pronunciation, and read and write approximately 600 Chinese characters.
Assessment	Class participation, a 2-hour examination and assignments and/or tests totalling 2000 words.
Prescribed Texts	As for 110-160 Chinese 1A.
