Subject Description

The subject introduces students to the achievements and significance of the ancient Greek and Roman world. It provides students with an opportunity to read a selection of the great works of classical Greek and Roman literature, to examine aspects of Greek and Roman art and architecture and to study select facets of the societies which produced these works, such as Greek democracy and Roman government. The aim is to provide a general introduction to the Graeco-Roman world, which can be fulfilling as a study on its own, but which can also serve as a basis for further study in greater detail of other aspects of Classical civilisation.
