Subject Description | This subject is an introduction to photography and film through the selective study of the history, conventions, and technology that enabled the reproduction of still and moving images from 1830 to the present. Emphasis is on the development of a visual grammar and vocabulary, the emergence of editing and film narrative (particularly in respect of classical Hollywood), art cinema practice, genre conventions, mise en scène and the introduction of colour and sound. |
Assessment | Written work totalling 4000 words or one essay of 2000 words and a storyboard equivalent to 2000 words or one essay of 2000 words and a folio of photographs equivalent to 2000 words. |
