Subject Description | Topics include the relevance of both scientific ideas and the thinking associated with technology to young children; selected aspects of biological and physical science that are relevant to early childhood educators such as the diversity of living things, materials (eg. textiles, food), properties of water, air, electricity and magnetism, light, sound and machines. Environmental and technological concepts are integrated throughout the program and appropriate activities and materials are identified to promote science learning and problem solving in early childhood settings. For science and technology unit development, students will review a sequence of lessons they have designed and implemented. This subject will identify how young children develop their scientific and technological understandings, and teaching approaches and strategies for supporting this learning in early childhood and primary school settings. Students will be introduced to a range of topics related to the natural and physical sciences and the curriculum and standards framework. Links will be made to teaching and professional practice when students will plan implement and evaluate a variety of experiences. |
