Subject Description

The objective of this subject is to provide students with competence in programming, database technology, as well as the use of programming and scripting to enhance GIS functionality.

The subject will include structure and syntax of a visual programming language, development of GIS functionality in general programming environments using GIS function libraries; customisation of geographic information systems using a scripting language, extension of attribute management through external database links and SQL.

Assessment

Not more than three hours of written examinations and tests, and not more than the equivalent of 60 pages of written assignments and reports on practical work. The relative weighting of the assessment components will be published at the commencement of the subject.
