Subject Description

The objective of this subject is for students to understand the principles and practice of database systems. Topics may include, but are not restricted to, data modelling for relational databases; query languages for databases such as SQL; database architectures and implementations; non-relational databases such as hierarchical, network and object-oriented databases; data integrity; data warehousing; data administration; and alternative organisational memory technologies such as groupware.

On completion of this subject, students should be familiar with the use of databases within organisations; database design; database manipulation; and data administration.
